How To Get The Most Out Of Your Day

If you are like most people you wonder how to get the most out of your day. That may seem like an easy question, but it really isn’t as easy as it sounds. It all depends on your life and your situation. What is a major accomplishment for one person may be trivial to another. So here is how to get the most out of your day, no matter who you are or what your situation is.

First get organized. Know what you want to accomplish, not only for the day but for the week and month as well. Set your priorities. Every night before you turn in, go over what you need to do the following day. Then, set the priorities. Obviously certain business meetings and obligations have to be met. If you have deadlines, always meet them. By writing down what needs to be done, meetings, phone calls, clients to contact, personal time (yes you need this) you can then prioritize what gets done first. What is not a priority, the little things. Every action you take comes with consequences both positive and negative. If you miss that client meeting, you may loose a client. If you miss your morning run, you will not feel as good about yourself as you should. So here is what you need to do. Set every thing on your to do list with a priority of 1-5. Anything below a 3 is not important and can be moved to another day if necessary.

When creating your priority list, be sure to include your home life as well as business. It is important to get to the kids concerts, little league games, etc. It is important to meet deadlines and keep appointments with co- workers, management and clients. Taking time to exercise, read, or soak in a tub is important. You have to take care of yourself personally and professionally before you take care of others. Once you realize that you do not have to be super woman or super man your life will be better overall and everything will fall into place.

Stick to your list. You have taken time to be sure that what is on this list is important. It does not matter where you have it, but be sure it is with you. When someone asks you to do something, check with your list first. If there is time to do it, then it okay to say yes. However, there will be times when your schedule is full. Those are the situations when you have to learn to say no.

There it is - that little word no. Learning to say no is the most important thing to learning how to get the most out of your day. It is okay to tell someone that you cannot accommodate them. Saying no and learning to balance your personal and business priorities will help you feel better about yourself. This is how to get the most out of your day, everyday.
